What it means

BPC-157, short for "body protection compound," is a 15-amino-acid peptide based on a fragment of a protein found in stomach juice. Most published research is in animals or cells. Well-designed human trials showing benefit, for weight loss or anything else, are lacking.

The FDA has listed BPC-157 among bulk substances nominated for compounding that may raise significant safety concerns. It cited possible immune reactions, peptide impurities and little safety information for the proposed routes. In 2026, federal health officials said they would revisit several peptides, and an FDA advisory committee discussed BPC-157 in July 2026. Check the FDA's current compounding pages for its status.

Whatever its compounding status, BPC-157 is not an approved medicine. Products sold online as "research peptides" have no FDA review of identity, purity or sterility.

Sunny Weigh does not give dosing or buying information for unapproved substances.

Why it matters

BPC-157 is heavily marketed beside GLP-1 medicines, but it has none of their trial evidence or FDA review.
