DefinitionMacronutrients are the three nutrients that supply calories: protein and carbohydrate at about 4 calories per gram, and fat at about 9.

What it means

Alcohol also supplies calories, about 7 per gram, but it is not counted as a nutrient you need.

A macro split shows how your calories are divided among protein, carbs and fat. There is no single best split for weight loss. Total calories matter most for the scale, while protein matters most for keeping muscle.

A practical order: set calories from your TDEE and goal, set protein next, then divide the rest between carbs and fat based on what you enjoy and can stick with. Fiber, which comes with carbs, helps with the constipation that some people get on GLP-1 medicines.

Food labels list grams of each macronutrient per serving. Multiplying those grams by 4, 4 and 9 lets you check whether a product's calories add up.

Why it matters

The macro calculator turns your calorie target into grams you can actually plan meals around.
